Starting up – What it’s looked like so far

It’s been an exciting start! I have had the opportunity to carry out the following:

Reviews of 2 residential schools: 5 independent inspections of children’s homes; 2 safeguarding reviews and have been busy delivering safeguarding training to adults who work in children’s homes.

I have enjoyed meeting new people within the sector and catching up with existing colleagues. I miss my old team at Wolverhampton City Council but I know they will be doing what they do best – building relationships, supporting children and families from a trauma informed perspective.

I’m benefitting from the learning in my therapeutic life story course and it’s almost coming up to essay time for SILP school which is also keeping me busy!

I’m keen to carry out more independent inspections and connect closely with schools, residential schools, fostering providers and children’s homes to support change within safeguarding and the quality of care our children experience. The work in our area is both challenging and rewarding and as I write my blog, I would each time like to close with a positive story to feel good about! My first example is a story about a care home that built a nursery! It is a fantastic example of intergenerational living the power of relationships and belonging. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/feb/06/young-old-and-marvellous-how-a-care-home-built-a-nursery-and-everyone-thrived
